As we bid farewell to 2023, we reflect on the exceptional successes of the year. From the heart of our operations to the far reaches of our digital presence, Killer Brownie® continues to leave its mark on the industry.
“As I reflect over this past year, my heart is very full,” President of Killer Brownie® Chimene Mayne Ross said. “We had some amazing successes as a company, including a 36% growth in sales.”
Sales is just one area that we’ve seen noteworthy accomplishments in this year. Our growth in safety and operations, marketing, and people services have continued to set Killer Brownie® apart as a leader and innovator in 2023.
Triumphs in Product Development
Product Development is a process that’s as long and experimental as it is creative. It can sometimes take years for an idea to come to fruition. Our R&D specialists must consider the smallest details, from bake time to the texture of the finished product, when developing a new recipe. Something as seemingly irrelevant as the weather can impact how a product turns out. So, it is a big deal when we make strides with a product in R&D!
This year, Julia Hoy, Director of Product Management and Quality Assurance, was proud to announce that the R&D team perfected a product that has been in the making for four years, an exciting milestone that adds to our 2023 achievements.
“Innovation keeps us fresh, and it keeps us current,” Chimene commented. “We love a challenge, and to see it all come together… [there is] nothing like that [feeling].”
Coast-to-Coast Sales
The Killer Brownie® sales team works around the clock to get our products in your customers’ hands. We set our sights on the West Coast and added a talented salesperson to Killer Brownie®.
“[This year,] we hired Micki Hardy as a new regional sales manager for the Western US,” Katie Hartman, Customer Service Manager, announced.
Micki’s long retail sales career has instilled in her a hyper-awareness of the problems people face in the industry, making her the perfect person to bring forth Killer Brownie® solutions. She works with a variety of customers, ensuring they walk away with a program that fits their needs.
As a service-first company, we care about our customers’ success. Micki and the rest of the sales team are dedicated to helping you solve problems and suggest a Killer Brownie® program to help you surpass your sales goals.
Growing the KB Team
Our dedicated team works together to provide millions of consumers across North America with a gourmet brownie experience, and we are so excited to be expanding our team of committed Brownie Specialists.
“We hired a record number of people this year,” Mellanie Miller, Manager of People Services, said, “and reached 150 team members!”
This is the largest team Killer Brownie® has ever had. Just a few short years ago, we had a total of 20 employees baking thousands of brownies per month. To have reached over seven times that with the capability to bake millions of brownies per month is a fantastic feat that will bolster our future success and provide you with more brownies to fill your sales floor.
Upgrading Safety
With so many new team members, it was essential for us to prioritize their safety. To do that, Katherine Yates, Senior Operations Director, spearheaded a few important advancements in our operations.
“We finalized a safety and recycling program and implemented a new onboarding process,” she said.
The safety program implements protocols, like increased signage, to decrease workplace injuries. Our new onboarding process will help familiarize new team members with Killer Brownie®, our products, and our new programs. These are just a few changes to our operations that will aid our longevity.
Fast and Efficient Operations
The individually wrapped brownies are our fastest-growing program. Customers are becoming increasingly interested in adding these pocket-sized brownies to their offerings, which has led to amazing growth in our production and packaging processes.
Production Director Matt Tye said, “We have more than doubled our capacity and throughput for individually wrapped brownies!”
Becoming more efficient in processing our individually wrapped brownies has helped us package and finish orders faster. Our fill rate for Q2 was 99.92%, which can be attributed to the adjustments made in our operations that allow us to fulfill your orders as efficiently as possible.
Building Up the Brownie Specialists
With the Killer Brownie® team reaching record numbers in 2023, we needed to recognize those who have stepped into more responsibility and are passionate about leading the team to achieve more in the future.
Chief Operating Officer Matt Ross announced that we promoted 14 team members this year.
Their passion for Killer Brownie® pushes us all to continually look for ways to improve. We are all working toward refining our skills and processes to serve you and your customers better.
Killing It In The Digital Space
The Killer Brownie® marketing team is here to put our products front and center on your customers’ screens to drive your sales. This year, we’ve made impressive strides in the digital space and our content production.
“We broke 100k followers on Instagram,” Jessica Uttinger, Director of Marketing and Creative Services, said. “[We also] launched a new website and began producing video content in-house!”
With an expanded digital reach, we can speak directly to your customers, share the Killer Brownie® experience, and show them where to find our brownies in your stores. Our new consumer-facing website creates a clean user experience, and producing in-house videos lets us quickly push out content to your customers. We are excited to continue reaching online milestones so that they may lead consumers to your stores.
