Killer Brownie® & Triangle Park

How Killer Brownie® helped share the story of the first-ever NFL game played in Dayton, OH.

In his upcoming film, writer and director Allen Farst will transport movie-goers to the first-ever NFL game, and we’ve partnered with him and the Triangle Park team to help bring this story to football fans everywhere.

But what do Killer Brownies® and NFL games have in common? They both began in Dayton, Ohio.

On October 3, 1920, two Ohio teams, the Columbus Panhandles and the Dayton Triangles, met on the field at Triangle Park, playing the first NFL game in the sport's history. Allen Farst turns this local tale into a cinematic journey called Triangle Park. Triangle Park is an epic story, and we had the opportunity to sponsor the film and create something that honored Dayton's legacy and the players of the game.

A Sweet Glimpse into NFL History

The film's core seeks to answer the question: where was the first-ever NFL game played, and who were the players?

Triangle Park is more than just a movie; it's a journey through time, a testament to the love of the game, and a celebration of Dayton, Ohio. For Allen, the essence of his craft lies in shining a light on stories and situations that he's passionate about. Partnerships and collaborations with like-minded organizations help bring these stories to life.

"When [the film] hits the big screen, and you're working with partners like Killer Brownie® that are helping to support your vision," Allen began, "it really gives you a lot of pride and honor."

With our shared roots and love for our hometown, the Killer Brownie® and Triangle Park partnership is a natural fit, and we're honored to have had a hand in sharing this piece of local history with the public.

Killer Brownie's® Gourmet Beginnings

Sixty years after the game in Triangle Park, the first Killer Brownie® was created in the kitchens of Dorothy Lane Market in the 1980s. The dessert grew a local cult following and became recognized for its iconic brownie layers and gooey, caramel-filled center. It started as an addition to DLM's boxed lunch program, and as it grew in popularity, the brownie became a crowd-pleasing gourmet item perfect for sharing.

"The first time I ever tried a Killer Brownie® was probably in the early 2000s," Allen said. "Every time that we have a holiday or a football party or anything like that, we always have a little tray of Killer Brownies® with us. These are the best brownies I've ever had."

Today, Killer Brownies® are the #1-selling gourmet brownies in the nation, and our facility makes millions of brownies per month. We are proud of our beloved hometown and relish the opportunity to share Dayton's remarkable history with the public.

The Story is in the Details

To commemorate the film, our graphic designer, Amy Connolly, was tasked with designing a special package for the Original Killer Brownie®. Her art highlighted the players of the Dayton Triangles, putting their faces in the spotlight of history and mirroring the film’s story.

"I really valued the attention to detail that Killer Brownie® put into their marketing and their product," Allen said. "Hobby Kinderdine who kicked the first extra point — you can see him on that package. The guy that scored the first touchdown, Lou Partlow — you can see him on the package. There's some real history that they put on the front of the brownie package."

It was important to add to the storytelling on Killer Brownie's® packaging by featuring the players on the front. Even the locker room in the background, still located in Carillon Park, adds to the historical significance represented on the package. Combined with the film, these Killer Brownies® help tell the fascinating story of this moment in time.

Triangle Park — Coming Soon to Theaters

Triangle Park isn't just the story of a historic event; it's a journey into the hearts of football enthusiasts. The film features a fantastic cast of actors and supporters of the film who, like Allen, participated in this project for their love of the game.

In this collaboration, we celebrate the past and the passion that drives us to tell compelling stories. As Triangle Park takes its place on the big screen, we take pride in being part of this timeless tale, guided by the love of the game, our local history, and the sweetness of Killer Brownie®.

Triangle Park is set to hit theaters in November, with Dayton and Ohio audiences getting the first taste of this compelling narrative. The film will also be available on Amazon Prime around Thanksgiving.
